Turkcell, which serves 2 million Syrians with mobile communication and 70% penetration rate, works on two solutions that aspire to address these challenges.
The mobile app “Hello Hope” addresses the problem of integration from a Turkish language learning perspective. The app consists of 5 main modules:
· Turkish language cards with which Arabic speakers can learn 1.500 most common words and expression in Turkish – the vocabulary that they can use in their daily lives. The cards include audio recordings of pronunciation in addition to the written word.
· Instant speech translation between Turkish and Arabic.
· A FAQ section which includes information on registration, access to public services including education and health, and GPRS-based services which lead the user to nearby facilities such as pharmacies, schools, bus stops, ATMs.
· News section, launched in February 2018, give users acess to daily news on various topics and navigate in last 2 days' news without leaving the application.
· Work Permits Headline under FAQ is included in collaboration with IOM, giving information on working in Turkey.
· One-click access to Turkcell’s Arabic-language call center, the first and the only Arabic language call center in Turkey.
· The app also incorporates education videos produced by Turkcell Academy and its partners.
Launched on September 20th 2016, the app has reached 1M users, with more than 600 million Turkish-language card views and 16 million uses of the speech translation feature to date, demonstrating the need for and the potential of such solutions.
