For Turkcell, sustainability is the focal point of our core business strategy.
In 2017, we established Turkcell Enerji Çözümleri A.Ş. with the objective of reducing energy supply costs and ensuring supply security, as well as mitigating the effects of climate change. Since its establishment, our subsidiary has increased its renewable energy investments to increase its installed capacity every year, and in 2024, we completed the installation of 6 SPPs with an installed capacity of 54 MW and commissioned three of them. The renewable energy we produced in 2024 reached a size equivalent to the electricity consumption of 32,500 households for 1 year. With these investments, we made a significant progress in 2024 in line with our strategy to transform from a 100% renewable electricity user to a digital operator that generates its own electricity. Furthermore, as of the end of 2024, we have increased the number of fields with solar panels (green fields) to 2,410. Our target is to create an additional 300 MW of installed capacity by the end of 2026. As Turkcell, we aim to transform into a completely carbon-neutral company by 2050.
We conduct studies that help our customers and our cities advance towards a more sustainable way of life, and we realize sustainable innovative products such as Dergilik, Turkcell Filiz, Kopilot, Akıllı Faks and Dijital İmza.
The Turkcell Waste Management Center we have established enables us to recycle our solid food waste collected on-site from the dining hall and office floors from which we produce soil-improving organic fertilizer. We recycle paper used in our offices and try to prevent unnecessary consumption with our centralized printing system. We use sensor lighting, energy saving light bulbs and a smart watch system for lighting in all our offices.
We recycle the unused electronic waste of our employees even from their homes.
We are launching a recycling campaign for electronic waste with the Recycle to Education project. We invite everyone to bring their electronic waste to Turkcell stores. In corporation with TUBİSAD we send this waste collected at Turkcell stores for recycling and convert resulting income into qualified education through TEGV (Educational Volunteers).
As Turkcell, we carry out all our activities in full compliance with national and international environmental requirements. We also operate in full compliance (100%) with the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System standard in all our locations. In accordance with the ISO 14001 standard, there are no employees or work areas excluded from its scope.
- According to legal regulations, since we are not responsible for the occupational safety structure of the contractor employees with whom we have made a turnkey work contract, the calculation was made only based on our total number of accidents, including our subcontractor.
- In the calculations, we considered our daily working hours as 8 hours, and our working days in 2023 were taken as 252 days.
- The total number of accidents/injuries, including the subcontractor, was taken as 22, and our total number of employees at the end of the year was taken as 6,382.
- The Accident Frequency Rate we used in reporting expresses the number of occupational accidents occurring in 1 million working hours over a certain period. It is calculated as follows:
- Accident Frequency Rate = [(Total Number of Accidents in a Year / Total Working Hours) * 1,000,000]
- (22 / (252 * 8 * 6,382)) * 1,000,000 = 1.71
